About the Artist; Ashby NorthAshby North is a seasoned illustrator for a variety of markets, including his special interest in art for children. He is the winner of the Silver Inkwell Award of Excellence for Best Magazine Cover in 2003. He has been in numerous shows with the Illustrator’s Club of Washington D.C. for whom he served as board member for a two years. One of his children’s illustrations was included in an alumni juried art show at the Corcoran Museum of Fine Art in 2003, for which he received an Honorable Mention. Having completed a BFA degree in Fine Arts in 1984 and completing a 2008 AFA degree in Graphic Design from the Corcoran School of Art and Design, Ashby is able to integrate a broad spectrum of design and creative thinking into his art. He has also worked with a wide variety of clients and is accustomed to working with editors and art directors, meeting deadlines and with a spirit of creative collaboration. North grew up as a child in East and West Africa, and traveled in Europe and the U.S.A. with American parents. Ashby was exposed to a diversity of cultures, peoples and arts that enriched his view of the world as well as his talent. From an early age he has been prolific in creating stories withpictures and enjoyed writing. He drew with the same sense of adventure with which he explored his world. Today, Ashby loves to do creative work and has a special passion for children’s story art. Within this genre, he looks for possibilities which delight with whimsical, humorous and unique ideas that appeal to children. |
